Chilling how absent Lula himself is from each of these. The unspoken common theme is the void at the center.

If the course of events in the US is any indicator, the population will return to fascism after a brief and anemic "return to normalcy" much like the Biden administration between Trump I and Trump II.

Confused by this passage: "According to Brazil’s most important conservative newspaper, Bolsonaro’s victory could bring milicianos to the top of the Republic. For a long time, I hasten to add."

What does it mean to be "brought to the top of the Republic"?

My translation, so apologies if unclear - it means, to put them in positions of high power in the Brazilian state

The boots on the ground method of the fascistic repertoire escalated during Trump II with ICE raids. It is hard to overstate how destabilizing thuggish armed militias popping citizens in the streets is to a sense of normalcy. And yet somehow, most frightening of all, people end up silently accepting things as they are after the transgression has occurred.

How long will it take for the Western hemisphere to recover? How can Brazil possibly resist this tide
