Interesting, thank you.

I was a young journalist in Romania who covered military trials, the mineriads, the Aids babies. During the mineriads I saw a woman being torn in front of me, literally torn by a crowd of people turned rabid. A young stranger (for who I am forever grateful) saved me. He was a boy and he did not know me, but he saved me from falling and from the same fate.

I reported for the British Daily Telegraph and UPI because those were the outlets that took my copy. I have followed Romanias social development. I recall the sense of betrayal when the NSF announced it was standing and the terror that followed. I have always tried to seek out Romanians I meet overseas, to ask them whether the gap between rich and poor is greater, the same, different.

I found Romanian people to be friendly and passionate and articulate, and kind to strangers like myself. But it was a country ruled by tyrannical leaders. All around the world sociopaths and narcissists are attracted to power.

I have come to hope for a very different society, different to capitalism, a new kind of socialism - a society where the nurturers are supported, where people share and care, where scum does not rise, and where everyone receives a flourishing start from the start throughout life with access to good housing, good education, good work conditions. We are all a long way from that. But I have hope. It is the only way I can survive.
